About the Society

Welcome to the Surrey Spring Show. This Show has been established by a group of friends who have all been touched by cancer. The idea to raise money with a charity show began when dear friends Sam Holland & Sue Alkin were both diagnosed.

The Show is being run to raise funds for The Royal Marsden Hospital and St.Catherine’s Hospice (Crawley).

We all know of Cancer, it happens to other people. The Surrey Spring Show has been established by a group of friends who have all been touched by this disease. The idea to raise money with a charity show began when dear friends Sam Holland & Sue Alkin were both diagnosed.

The Show is being run to raise funds for The Royal Marsden Hospital (where Sam continues to receive her excellent treatment); and St.Catherines Hospice (Crawley) that cared so wonderfully for Sue. The committee and everyone involved have given their time for free and every penny of the proceeds will go to the two charities. Thank you for your kind and generous support.

Charities Supported

The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity

The Royal Marsden is a world-leading cancer centre, providing the very best treatment and care for more than 40,000 cancer patients every year. It is also at the forefront of cancer research. The Royal Marsden’s work influences how all cancer patients are treated and cared for, not just in its own hospitals but all over the world.

[Equihunter] The phenomenal growth in popularity of the new show jumping league Cashjumping™ continues as it is announced this morning that the first competition will be held in Northern Ireland this coming Saturday 1st March.

The Meadows Equestrian Centre – Northern Ireland’s centre of excellence for equestrianism

In an announcement this morning (25th Feb) Bryan Shear was delighted to announce that CashJumping™ has crossed the Irish Sea and is now available in Northern Ireland and soon to be available in Southern Ireland as well.

With the formation of CashJumping™ Ireland the franchise continues from strength to strength.

cash-jumping-ireland-logo

The Meadows Equestrian Centre has signed an exclusive deal that franchises the Cashjumping league within the region under the new banner CashJumping™ Ireland. The MEC will be taking full control of Cashjumping in Ireland and will be running their own results tables and prize grid. The winnings registered will stay within the territory as well.

This is what The Meadows Equestrian Centre has to say about the deal on their Facebook Page….

CashJumping has taken the UK by storm with over 3,500 participants registering for this new showjumping formula within the first 2 months. Now due to it’s remarkable success CashJumping is set to take off in Northern and Southern Ireland.

Registration fees to join are only £10/12 euro and class entry fees start from as low as £10 with 50% of all entry fees being passed back to competitors by way of prize money.

The first CashJumping classes will take place on Saturday 1st March incorporated into the unregistered horse and pony jumping at The MEC where the riders and their horses or ponies can compete in classes from 60cm to 1.30m.

These shows will continue every Saturday with competitors having the choice of clear round jumping or CashJumping as well as registered Show Jumping so register now at www.cashjumpingireland.com to be eligible to collect your prize money on the day.

Bryan Shear added “We are pleased to announce the launch of Cashjumping Ireland. Franchised by Meadows Equestrian Centre, we wish this natural extension to Cash jumping UK the best of luck”. They are holding their first show this coming Saturday

At Cashjumping we have lots of exciting plans in pipeline, we want to develop the league further in 2015, lots of ideas are being discussed and we would welcome any ideas from members to keep developing Cashjumping.

CashJumping™ takes the country by storm: Equihunter

[Equihunter] The phenomenon known as CASHJumping™ is sweeping the country after it’s successful launch within the last few weeks.

Designed for all show jumpers whatever their level and will provide fair competition for all with reasonable entry fees, decent prize money and good facilities

Cashjumping™

Join in the fun – Register at Cashjumping™

President of the newly formed organisation Bryan Shear happily noted in a Facebook post earlier today …..

President – Bryan Shear

“CASHJUMPING IS NOW LIVE – following the highly successful launch shows at Norton Heath and Blue Sky – comments such as “showjumping as it used to be”, “absolutely fab”, “you’ve bought showjumping back alive” – have come back to us, which is all fantastic news, and you can view them on our cashjumping facebook page.”

“Cashjumping now has over 3300 Rider and Horse or Pony Registrations, and 30 Show Centres are now registered with more coming in all the time.”

What is CashJumping

CashJumping is the brainchild of Bryan Shear and is designed to allow show jumpers of all levels to compete for decent prize money in venues with good facilities and at a reasonable cost.

Within the first week and and with no marketing campaign supporting it CashJumping saw over 600 competitors register and this is continuing to grow at the rate of 50 new registrations a day.

Bryan Shear founder of this new show jumping competition confessed to be overwhelmed with the response: “In the first hour of our website going live the number of people trying to access the system and sign up caused the servers to overload we completely underestimated the demand”

Having resolved those initial teething problems membership was firmly on the rise.

Cashjumping: How it works

The basic concept is simple explains Bryan, “entry fee is £10 a class for our stage one classes which go from 60cm to 1.40m and anyone who has not won more than £500 at Cashjumping at the relevant height can enter. 50% of all of the entry fees go into the prize fund.

Once a rider has won £500 they move up to the stage 2 classes were winnings limit is £1500 and thereafter to Stage 3 where there is no limit” Stage 2 classes the entry fee is £15 and stage 3 £20 resulting in even more prize money for the competitors.”

Show Centres

From the first few show centres who had already signed up, including the prestigious Netley Hall Equestrian Centre, runner up in this year’s British show jumping show centre of the year awards, the list has since grown with amazing speed and now stands at over 30 show centres, with yet more to follow.

For the show centre’s approved to run these classes there are benefits too. No affiliation fees, no class fees and a series that appeals to riders of all levels, with a prestigious final at the end of the season to look forward to.

The Cashjumping website www.cashjumping.co.uk can be used to market the shows and the centre’s are able to view the registered riders by area and see the level of demand for the shows and communicate direct with their local competitors to make sure the schedule reflects what the local riders want to see.

How was this all possible – Bryan explains….

“When British Show jumping changed its rules to allow its members to compete in other non BS events and not have any limit on the amount of prize money the opportunity to provide all riders with a good quality local show combined with a national final was too good to miss.”

“The fact is that everybody is having to look to reduce costs where they can and if local centre’s can put on quality shows with good facilities using accredited course builders and judges at a reasonable cost with a decent return the savings for the competitors in diesel, entry fees and membership costs can be huge”.

So is this a direct competitor to the established show jumping scene? Bryan says not…

“We see this as something that will bridge the gap between the British Show jumpers and the unaffiliated riders”.

“Yes of course it is expensive even for the professional yards to register and compete all of their horses at BS shows, and there may be some people who decide not to register all of their youngsters straight in at BS level, but any loss of income should be more than compensated for by an increase in the number of unaffiliated riders who go Cashjumping compete against their BS counterparts and realize that BS is not some sort of holy grail reserved for the rich or professional rider”.

The Staffordshire based Weston Lawns Equitation Centre was hosting British Showjumping teams from all over the UK attending the Junior Inter-Academy Team Finals Competition held on 20th & 21st of August.

On the afternoon of the 20th, the packed venue held a round of the NAF British Showjumping Horse and Pony Five Star Performance Awards programme at one and two star levels.

Riders are required to perform a round of Showjumping and then display control skills in a dressage style round, working to a floor plan that includes walk, trot on both reins, canter on both reins and halt. The Showjumping section is judged separately on style.

The PONY Five Star Performance Awards are designed as a series of progressive standards which provide pony riders with a focus for their training, improved performance in the ring and improved stable management skills.

These awards start from instilling the correct basics and fundamentals through to encouraging young riders progression onto competitive pony riding through to supporting their step onto horses.

The aim of the programme is also to instil stable management knowledge, respect of the rules as well as ethics of sportsmanship and recognition of good performance over results. The awards also provide preparation for riders who wish to compete on Home Pony National teams and FEI International teams.

[Equestrian Clearance Blog] As someone interested in all things equestrian, you must have heard something about the horse meat scandal taking place right now in the UK.

It’s pretty much dominated horsey headlines for the last month as disgusted diners realised that what they thought was beef was actually up to 100% horse.

Under fire is Findus, whose lasagne is in the line of fire after a Food Standards Agency report revealed the high horse meat levels in the frozen treat. As a precaution, supermarket chain Tesco pulled food from the shelves which was supplied from the same factory. Similarly, reports are abounding that Findus will take legal action against their French supplier, Spanghero, who has been at the forefront of a lot of controversy in the pass.

A sad ending

It’s never nice to hear that some horses don’t end their life as seasoned racers or retired riding ponies. Though horse meat has long been eaten across the world, in this country horses are usually friends rather than food. This blog post from Equestrian Clearance sums up the debacle.

Horses have always been an important part of British culture; in fact, the UK is famous for horse racing and for our world class Olympic Equestrian team, so today, we celebrate them.

Upsetting the odds

One of the most famous horses in racing has to be Seabiscuit. The champion Thoroughbred was foaled over in the states, and became so famous he has been the subject of a number of films and books. He’s got his own statue in Santa Anita Park too.

Despite the fact that as a colt he was notably lazy, small and had knobby knees, he went on to win 33 races and became a symbol of hope during the Great Depression.

Competition horses specialise in show jumping or the tricky moves of dressage. Milton, a show jumping horse, also had plenty of prestigious achievements under her hooves, including over £1 million in prize money – the first non-racing horse to ever achieve this.

Meanwhile, Seldom Seen stood at only 14.2 hands high but still managed to capture the heart of the racing world as his comparative tininess didn’t hold him back from Grand Prix victories.

Horses in history

Some horses have even changed the shape of history.  Alexander the Great’s famous mount Bucephalus would carry the famous general through history-changing battles. He’s the horse known for having been notoriously difficult to train, and it was only Alexander who would eventually tame him.

Comache was one of the equestrian heroes of the Battle of Little Bighorn, and one of the few survivors of the historical tragedy. He was purchased by Captain Myles Keogh of the 7th Cavalry to serve as his battle mount.

During a battle in 1868, the horse continued to carry Keogh into the fight despite the fact the horse had sustained an arrow wound in his hind quarters. His bravery would continue in similar confrontations, when he soldiered on through injuries and carried Keogh back to safety afterwards.

More than just a set of hooves

Horses are seen as intelligent animals, but two of the most renowned horses with more brain matter than most were Clever Hans and Muhamed. The former was capable of solving basic arithmetic problems by way of signalling answers with his hoof. Muhamed also used his hooves to tap out cube roots of numbers presented to him – spectacular.

Other impressive horses include Huaso, who set the high jumping record by clearing a huge 8 ft. 1 inch jump, and the first cloned horse Promethia who was the successful result of intensive study by Italian researchers.

So really, horses don’t deserve being put on a plate, do they?

At the recent British Showjumping Awards Ball, Chloe was awarded the title of Best U21 Horse Rider of the Year, and her growing list of accolades shows no sign of stopping.                                                                  equihunter horseboxes

The 18-year-old has consistently been in the prize money on the Vilamoura Tour in Spain, and took two second-placed finishes at the prestigious Horse of the Year Show.

Chloe pushed one of Ireland’s top showjumping riders, Dermott Lennon, all the way in an international class, and this form has seen her rise to number one in the young showjumper rankings in Great Britain.

In two weeks’ time, Chloe will line up with 23 other young riders to contest the U23 championship final at the London International Horse Show in Olympia.

The competition carries a prize fund of £15,300, with the first prize-winner scooping £5,100 – making it one of the most hotly-contested young rider events in the country.

The jumping tracks are purposely built to give the young riders the experience they require when jumping abroad, and they will tackle fences between 1.45m and 1.50m.

Chloe will be riding Kolbri Classic, the horse she ……
