[Easy2Insure] A recent report in the Financial Times suggests that niche motor industry businesses are currently bucking the economic trend and doing rather well.

Sleek Aerodynamic Design

EQUIHUNTER ENDURANCE – Sleek Aerodynamic Design

The report looked at a number of businesses in the usually hard-hit North East of England and found that, rather than struggling during one of the worst economic periods in decades, small manufacturers and specialist producers are doing particularly well financially.

One of those listed is the UK’s largest horsebox maker Equi-Trek. The firm is the largest maker of horse boxes in the UK and produces everything from £5,000 hitch and go trailers to luxury mobile homes for professional showjumpers that run into hundreds of thousands of pounds. So why are things looking so bright for horse box manufacturers, and could this be part of the ‘Olympic Legacy’ we’ve all heard so much about this year?

A little extra disposable income and some smart options such as group ownership and syndicates has also meant that more people are being encouraged to enter what was previously thought of as an elite sport. But there are still expenses and along with the tack, the equipment and, of course, the horse, owners need to be mobile. And that means investing in a horse box…..

A LITTLE ABOUT THE SURREY SPRING SHOW SOCIETY

We all know of Cancer, it happens to other people. The Surrey Spring Show has been established by a group of friends who have all been touched by this disease. The idea to raise money with a charity show began when dear friends Sam Holland & Sue Alkin were both diagnosed. The Show is being run to raise funds for The Royal Marsden Hospital (where Sam continues to receive her excellent treatment); and St.Catherine’s Hospice (Crawley) that cared so wonderfully for Sue. The committee and everyone involved have given their time for free and every penny of the proceeds will go to the two charities. Thank you for your kind and generous support.

The 15-year-old from Thornaby won the Grand Prix event in Fontainebleau, where she struck double gold at last year’s European Pony Championships.

She took the top Grand Prix spot in France on her father Peter’s 10-year-old bay mare Song Girl with two clear rounds in a time of 42.62 seconds.

The Stainsby Grange youngster had produced one of nine clear jumps in the first round.

And her faultless efforts in such a quick time went unmatched as she showed why she is the European individual and team champion.

Millie’s victory was part of a hugely successful three-week trip to Europe for the Teesside teenager.

She also finished third in the Junior Gold Grand Prix and made another successful stop in Germany following her victory in France.

Millie’s 19-year-old sister Pippa, who is part of the British Equestrian Federation’s World Class Development Programme, is based in Eschweiller at Helena Weinberg and Tim Stormann’s yard.

They held an international two- star Young Masters show and the sisters flew the flag for Great Britain with eight first and three second places.

[Somerset Guardian] Dani Evans confirmed her status as one of Britain’s brightest young equestrian stars by finishing third at the Chatsworth International Horse Trials last weekend.

The 21-year-old – tipped by the BBC as one to watch for the 2016 Rio Olympics – jumped a double clear on Raphael II, owned by Vanessa Watson of Bishop Sutton.

That was enough to earn her a top-three finish in the International three-star CIC section, behind winner Andrew Nicholson and Badminton rider Aoife Clark.

The result capped a busy week for Evans, who has returned to her family base in Woollard after spending 2012 under the tutelage of three-day eventing legend Pippa Funnell.

She also competed at Aston-le-Walls in the Open Intermediate under-21 section G, where she placed third on Smart Time, fourth on Kali de L Aer and seventh on her own Herbst Golden Eclipse.

Evans was also invited to be a guinea pig for the dressage judges at the recent Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials.

In the next few weeks, she will be competing in international three-day events at Bramham in Yorkshire and Tattersalls in Ireland but her ultimate aim for 2013 is to earn selection for the European Young Rider Championships, which are being staged in Jardy, France, during September.
