[Equihunter] The phenomenal growth in popularity of the new show jumping league Cashjumping™ continues as it is announced this morning that the first competition will be held in Northern Ireland this coming Saturday 1st March.

The Meadows Equestrian Centre – Northern Ireland’s centre of excellence for equestrianism

In an announcement this morning (25th Feb) Bryan Shear was delighted to announce that CashJumping™ has crossed the Irish Sea and is now available in Northern Ireland and soon to be available in Southern Ireland as well.

With the formation of CashJumping™ Ireland the franchise continues from strength to strength.

The Meadows Equestrian Centre has signed an exclusive deal that franchises the Cashjumping league within the region under the new banner CashJumping™ Ireland. The MEC will be taking full control of Cashjumping in Ireland and will be running their own results tables and prize grid. The winnings registered will stay within the territory as well.

This is what The Meadows Equestrian Centre has to say about the deal on their Facebook Page….

CashJumping has taken the UK by storm with over 3,500 participants registering for this new showjumping formula within the first 2 months. Now due to it’s remarkable success CashJumping is set to take off in Northern and Southern Ireland.

Registration fees to join are only £10/12 euro and class entry fees start from as low as £10 with 50% of all entry fees being passed back to competitors by way of prize money.

The first CashJumping classes will take place on Saturday 1st March incorporated into the unregistered horse and pony jumping at The MEC where the riders and their horses or ponies can compete in classes from 60cm to 1.30m.

These shows will continue every Saturday with competitors having the choice of clear round jumping or CashJumping as well as registered Show Jumping so register now at www.cashjumpingireland.com to be eligible to collect your prize money on the day.

Bryan Shear added “We are pleased to announce the launch of Cashjumping Ireland. Franchised by Meadows Equestrian Centre, we wish this natural extension to Cash jumping UK the best of luck”. They are holding their first show this coming Saturday

At Cashjumping we have lots of exciting plans in pipeline, we want to develop the league further in 2015, lots of ideas are being discussed and we would welcome any ideas from members to keep developing Cashjumping.

When was the last time you checked ? – spare a thought for your horsebox: Equihunter

[Equihunter] We check on our horses every day, but the next time you are at the yard, why not also spare a thought about the condition of your horsebox as well.

Please ask yourself this question before you set off… Picture courtesy “Four Counties Insurance Brokers Ltd” – Specialist in Horsebox Insurance & Breakdown Cover

This is the time of year when we are all coming out of our winter hibernation and starting to think about getting out and about again regularly to the shows, competitions and to training.

Whatever vehicle you drive it’s also the time of year that your horsebox deserves that much needed care and attention in terms of an annual inspection and some routine maintenance.

Whether you are just planning a day out or even going for a short stay away, it’s important to note that by following a few simple basic steps you can help to save yourself from the awful experience of breaking down on the road and have the worry, stress and dangers that this event can bring.

It goes without saying that an annual maintenance check is a must. You may even have an MOT or Plating test coming up, in which case you will be assured that your horsebox repair and maintenance specialist will be covering the essentials, but if this usually happens during the summer months, please don’t take it for granted that all is OK after what may have been months of relative inactivity with your vehicle over the winter.

REMEMBER: ALWAYS GET PROFESSIONAL ADVICE IF YOU ARE AT ALL UNSURE WHAT TO DO.

Don’t wait until it is too late: Image Courtesy “The Organisation of Horsebox & Trailer Owners“

Here are some helpful tips of things you possibly can manage yourself…..
  • Check you are road legal, note the expiry dates on your insurance, test certificate and road tax.
  • Make sure that you have adequate and in date breakdown and recovery insurance, don’t just rely on luck, it’s just not worth it.
  • Before you set off, make sure you have written access to important emergency numbers, like your vet, your emergency breakdown company and have your insurance details to hand.
  • Please ensure that you have a working mobile phone on board with a full charge before you set off. If you can take your phone charger with you that can be plugged into t a working power outlet in the cab.
  • Make sure the obvious things work like headlight, brake lights and indicators all work properly, have someone help you while you operate the controls
  • Check the condition of your vehicle’s tyres, especially if you haven’t used your horsebox over the winter.  look out for reduced air pressure and visible signs of wear such as cracks in the side walls.
  • In the engine area perform a few simple checks like making sure your windscreen washer level is full, check your engine oil level as well and ensure your radiator coolant is at the correctly indicated level.
  • If your vehicle has wooden floors, always check regularly for signs of rot and weakness

If you are unsure of how do perform any of these checks please, please seek advice from a professional mechanical engineer, preferably with a specialty in dealing with equestrian transport vehicles or seek help from competent and experienced person that knows what they are looking out for.

Finally why not visit the ‘Local Rider‘ magazine website and take a look at their great check sheet they have produced that lists the 10 most common reasons horseboxes fail an MOT test. The Local Rider website has some really great advice here…..

Another source of helpful information comes from VOSA in the form of a 26 page guide, compiled with the help of BE, BD, BHS, BEF, H&H and PRP Rescue Service

Aberdeen finance director embezzled cash to buy horsebox: STV News

[STV News] A finance director embezzled more than £77,000 from her work so she could buy luxury goods including a horse box.

Court report: Petronella MacDougall embezzled more than £77,000 over two years from company accounts.

Petronella MacDougall, 59, siphoned off tens of thousands of pounds from a business account while working as head of accounts at an Aberdeen-based production company.

She was caught when a fellow director at A-Line Audio Visual found an email asking for a deposit for a horse box. That led to the discovery of a secret credit card which MacDougall used to take money out of the company’s accounts.

Aberdeen Sheriff Court was told that as one of three directors at the company, MacDougall had a debit card and was authorised to co-sign business cheques.

Her colleagues, Andrew Dunn and Richard Trilk, checked the company’s accounts after suppliers complained of missed payments.

Procurator fiscal depute Elaine Ward said: “On February 7, 2013, one of the other directors received a telephone call from a company supplier seeking payment for an outstanding account that amounted to £1300.

“As a result of this witness Dunn looked at the cheque book and noticed one of the cheque stubs had been as payment of 500 pounds to the company. He quizzed this with the supplier but there were adamant they had not received payment.”

The two men found several payments to businesses who had no connection to A-Line, as well as regular monthly payments of £300 to a Mastercard which neither director knew about.

Mr Dunn also noticed a payment of £2500 made out to R and S Sinclair, which corresponded to an email to MacDougall from a Sharon Sinclair asking for a deposit for a horse box.

When company accountants were called in to carry out a forensic audit of the business they discovered a staggering £77.162.24 had been embezzled over two years without anyone noticing.

MacDougall was cautioned and detained by police on February 26 last year, and admitted the crime in a police interview.

The first edition opens with a full page narrative from Colin Poole and Bryan Shear of how Cashjumping came about and what it’s aims are.

Colin takes up the story …. “When I first thought of the concept of CashJumping only a few short weeks ago and discussed it with Bryan neither one of us envisaged that it would be so successful so quickly. We were of course aware of the spiralling costs of diesel, fees ,etc for the affiliated riders and the growing unrest amongst a number of affiliated riders that perceived their association to be unresponsive and elitist.

The difficulty was that there was no real viable alternative. Affiliated riders perceived that unaffiliated competitions were poorly run with inferior officials and equipment. Unaffiliated riders were quite often apprehensive to bridge the gap between unaffiliated competitions and affiliated ones.

CashJumping was designed to bridge that gap and make good quality competition open and affordable to all. Show centres must meet minimum quality standards and all officials have to be approved by us. This seems to be working affiliated riders are attending the shows and the unaffiliated people are discovering that
they can compete in the same classes and have the benefit of winning cash!”

There are nice pictorial articles featuring the first CashJumping events to be held…. The show held at Blue Sky Equestrian Centre, Golden Cross Equestrian Centre and Beaver Hall are all featured….
