[Daily Mail] This is the dramatic moment eight people worked together to rescue a horse that was stuck in a pond.

The animal, named Diego, wandered down to the brown, murky water in the village of Shipley in West Sussex to have a drink.

But after cooling down, it found it was unable to climb up the pond’s steep grass bank.

Its owner called the RSPCA after spotting the brown horse ‘stumbling and tripping’ as it desperately tried to escape from the water.

Two RSPCA officers then worked with six firefighters to rescue the animal last Wednesday afternoon.

The horse was rescued from a pond in the village of Shipley (pictured) in West Sussex, just off the A272

‘We are extremely grateful to the fire service for their help. There is no way we could have helped the horse without them.

[Equihunter] Our latest project is about to roll off of the production line next week destined for a well known riding school based in Essex.

Equihunter Arena 3.5t Horsebox in cream with green and gold trim

The Equihunter Arena 3.5t Horsebox in cream with green and gold trim

This build is finished to our customer specific instructions and is completed in a beautiful rich cream paint made by BMW called “Pepper White”, with green and gold trim that matches the corporate logo of the riding school.

This Arena is built upon a 2011 Fiat Ducato chassis with only 38,000 miles on the clock.

We’ve also added special features like internal LED lighting with blue night running lights as we have on our 7.5 tonne Equihunter Endurance lorry.

As fitted to the Equihunter Endurance

This ensures that the horses benefit from having a lit journey during the hours of darkness, but can also see out through the windows at assign traffic, and thus are less likely to be spooked but the sudden appearance of other vehicles headlights.

Other features include LED down lighters mounted above the rear door plus another set of LED down lights mounted high up on the drivers side of the vehicle to light the tie up area for those late evenings preparing to return home after dusk has fallen.

Here’s a gallery of images to show this Arena off….

….. the only things still to be completed are some finishing touches in the cab, the passenger seats are just about be to be delivered after being re-covered in cream vinyl and the bulkhead wall liner needs finishing. Apart from that, we’re ready to ‘rock and roll’

When was the last time you checked ? – spare a thought for your horsebox: Equihunter

[Equihunter] We check on our horses every day, but the next time you are at the yard, why not also spare a thought about the condition of your horsebox as well.

Please ask yourself this question before you set off… Picture courtesy “Four Counties Insurance Brokers Ltd” – Specialist in Horsebox Insurance & Breakdown Cover

This is the time of year when we are all coming out of our winter hibernation and starting to think about getting out and about again regularly to the shows, competitions and to training.

Whatever vehicle you drive it’s also the time of year that your horsebox deserves that much needed care and attention in terms of an annual inspection and some routine maintenance.

Whether you are just planning a day out or even going for a short stay away, it’s important to note that by following a few simple basic steps you can help to save yourself from the awful experience of breaking down on the road and have the worry, stress and dangers that this event can bring.

It goes without saying that an annual maintenance check is a must. You may even have an MOT or Plating test coming up, in which case you will be assured that your horsebox repair and maintenance specialist will be covering the essentials, but if this usually happens during the summer months, please don’t take it for granted that all is OK after what may have been months of relative inactivity with your vehicle over the winter.

REMEMBER: ALWAYS GET PROFESSIONAL ADVICE IF YOU ARE AT ALL UNSURE WHAT TO DO.

Don’t wait until it is too late: Image Courtesy “The Organisation of Horsebox & Trailer Owners“

Here are some helpful tips of things you possibly can manage yourself…..
  • Check you are road legal, note the expiry dates on your insurance, test certificate and road tax.
  • Make sure that you have adequate and in date breakdown and recovery insurance, don’t just rely on luck, it’s just not worth it.
  • Before you set off, make sure you have written access to important emergency numbers, like your vet, your emergency breakdown company and have your insurance details to hand.
  • Please ensure that you have a working mobile phone on board with a full charge before you set off. If you can take your phone charger with you that can be plugged into t a working power outlet in the cab.
  • Make sure the obvious things work like headlight, brake lights and indicators all work properly, have someone help you while you operate the controls
  • Check the condition of your vehicle’s tyres, especially if you haven’t used your horsebox over the winter.  look out for reduced air pressure and visible signs of wear such as cracks in the side walls.
  • In the engine area perform a few simple checks like making sure your windscreen washer level is full, check your engine oil level as well and ensure your radiator coolant is at the correctly indicated level.
  • If your vehicle has wooden floors, always check regularly for signs of rot and weakness

If you are unsure of how do perform any of these checks please, please seek advice from a professional mechanical engineer, preferably with a specialty in dealing with equestrian transport vehicles or seek help from competent and experienced person that knows what they are looking out for.

Finally why not visit the ‘Local Rider‘ magazine website and take a look at their great check sheet they have produced that lists the 10 most common reasons horseboxes fail an MOT test. The Local Rider website has some really great advice here…..

Another source of helpful information comes from VOSA in the form of a 26 page guide, compiled with the help of BE, BD, BHS, BEF, H&H and PRP Rescue Service

Aberdeen finance director embezzled cash to buy horsebox: STV News

[STV News] A finance director embezzled more than £77,000 from her work so she could buy luxury goods including a horse box.

Court report: Petronella MacDougall embezzled more than £77,000 over two years from company accounts.

Petronella MacDougall, 59, siphoned off tens of thousands of pounds from a business account while working as head of accounts at an Aberdeen-based production company.

She was caught when a fellow director at A-Line Audio Visual found an email asking for a deposit for a horse box. That led to the discovery of a secret credit card which MacDougall used to take money out of the company’s accounts.

Aberdeen Sheriff Court was told that as one of three directors at the company, MacDougall had a debit card and was authorised to co-sign business cheques.

Her colleagues, Andrew Dunn and Richard Trilk, checked the company’s accounts after suppliers complained of missed payments.

Procurator fiscal depute Elaine Ward said: “On February 7, 2013, one of the other directors received a telephone call from a company supplier seeking payment for an outstanding account that amounted to £1300.

“As a result of this witness Dunn looked at the cheque book and noticed one of the cheque stubs had been as payment of 500 pounds to the company. He quizzed this with the supplier but there were adamant they had not received payment.”

The two men found several payments to businesses who had no connection to A-Line, as well as regular monthly payments of £300 to a Mastercard which neither director knew about.

Mr Dunn also noticed a payment of £2500 made out to R and S Sinclair, which corresponded to an email to MacDougall from a Sharon Sinclair asking for a deposit for a horse box.

When company accountants were called in to carry out a forensic audit of the business they discovered a staggering £77.162.24 had been embezzled over two years without anyone noticing.

MacDougall was cautioned and detained by police on February 26 last year, and admitted the crime in a police interview.

This year Allen, competing in Florida for the first time, joined the USA’s Laura Kraut – one of the best in the world – plus Nicole Bellisimo, Danielle Goldstein, Brianne Goutal, Lauren Hough, Maggie Jayne, Catherine Passmore and Debbie Stephens under the guidance of captain Candice King.

Team GB London 2012 Team Gold rider, Nick Skelton was on the men’s team accompanied by Stefano Barcho, Mark Bluman, Lorenzo de Luca, Todd Minikus, Richie Moloney, Samuel Parot, Shane Sweetnam, Hardin Towell and team captain Charlie Jayne.

With both teams having to perform across a speed phase, match competition and a six bar, the boys looked set for victory.

But when Passmore was the only rider to jump clear in the second round of the six bar, the deciding performance snatched the title fore the girls.

CashJumping™ takes the country by storm: Equihunter

[Equihunter] The phenomenon known as CASHJumping™ is sweeping the country after it’s successful launch within the last few weeks.

Designed for all show jumpers whatever their level and will provide fair competition for all with reasonable entry fees, decent prize money and good facilities

Cashjumping™

Join in the fun – Register at Cashjumping™

President of the newly formed organisation Bryan Shear happily noted in a Facebook post earlier today …..

President – Bryan Shear

“CASHJUMPING IS NOW LIVE – following the highly successful launch shows at Norton Heath and Blue Sky – comments such as “showjumping as it used to be”, “absolutely fab”, “you’ve bought showjumping back alive” – have come back to us, which is all fantastic news, and you can view them on our cashjumping facebook page.”

“Cashjumping now has over 3300 Rider and Horse or Pony Registrations, and 30 Show Centres are now registered with more coming in all the time.”

What is CashJumping

CashJumping is the brainchild of Bryan Shear and is designed to allow show jumpers of all levels to compete for decent prize money in venues with good facilities and at a reasonable cost.

Within the first week and and with no marketing campaign supporting it CashJumping saw over 600 competitors register and this is continuing to grow at the rate of 50 new registrations a day.

Bryan Shear founder of this new show jumping competition confessed to be overwhelmed with the response: “In the first hour of our website going live the number of people trying to access the system and sign up caused the servers to overload we completely underestimated the demand”

Having resolved those initial teething problems membership was firmly on the rise.

Cashjumping: How it works

The basic concept is simple explains Bryan, “entry fee is £10 a class for our stage one classes which go from 60cm to 1.40m and anyone who has not won more than £500 at Cashjumping at the relevant height can enter. 50% of all of the entry fees go into the prize fund.

Once a rider has won £500 they move up to the stage 2 classes were winnings limit is £1500 and thereafter to Stage 3 where there is no limit” Stage 2 classes the entry fee is £15 and stage 3 £20 resulting in even more prize money for the competitors.”

Show Centres

From the first few show centres who had already signed up, including the prestigious Netley Hall Equestrian Centre, runner up in this year’s British show jumping show centre of the year awards, the list has since grown with amazing speed and now stands at over 30 show centres, with yet more to follow.

For the show centre’s approved to run these classes there are benefits too. No affiliation fees, no class fees and a series that appeals to riders of all levels, with a prestigious final at the end of the season to look forward to.

The Cashjumping website www.cashjumping.co.uk can be used to market the shows and the centre’s are able to view the registered riders by area and see the level of demand for the shows and communicate direct with their local competitors to make sure the schedule reflects what the local riders want to see.

How was this all possible – Bryan explains….

“When British Show jumping changed its rules to allow its members to compete in other non BS events and not have any limit on the amount of prize money the opportunity to provide all riders with a good quality local show combined with a national final was too good to miss.”

“The fact is that everybody is having to look to reduce costs where they can and if local centre’s can put on quality shows with good facilities using accredited course builders and judges at a reasonable cost with a decent return the savings for the competitors in diesel, entry fees and membership costs can be huge”.

So is this a direct competitor to the established show jumping scene? Bryan says not…

“We see this as something that will bridge the gap between the British Show jumpers and the unaffiliated riders”.

“Yes of course it is expensive even for the professional yards to register and compete all of their horses at BS shows, and there may be some people who decide not to register all of their youngsters straight in at BS level, but any loss of income should be more than compensated for by an increase in the number of unaffiliated riders who go Cashjumping compete against their BS counterparts and realize that BS is not some sort of holy grail reserved for the rich or professional rider”.
